The Council on Postsecondary Education is pleased to announce that the Kentucky College and Career Connection Coalition (KY3C) has selected Melissa Bondurant as Coordinator to continue the work started under the leadership of Kim Drummond with GEAR UP. All Ky3C members are invited to attend the 2017 Institute for a College-Going Commonwealth on June 7 – 8, 2017 FREE OF CHARGE.
The 2017 Institute for a College-Going Commonwealth will bring together the diverse voices and perspectives of GEAR UP students and their key influencers to explore what it truly takes to ensure students are prepared for success in postsecondary education and/or the workforce – academically, financially, culturally, socially and emotionally. National and state experts and facilitators will lead interactive sessions to explore student success through three themes over this two-day event:
- READINESS: Students are academically and financially prepared for postsecondary education
- RESILIENCE: Students are socially and emotionally capable of succeeding in postsecondary education
- RELEVANCE: Students find the value of education and understand its relationship to their goals
The first day is designed for audience-specific tracks focused on academic and financial readiness, with specific, separate sessions for parents, counselors/advisors, and education professionals and all audiences will come together for a kickoff luncheon, GEAR UP Student Ambassador poster session reception, and a special awards dinner.
The next Ky3C meeting will be held during this two-day conference on Friday, June 9, 10:45 am – 12 noon (CT). This meeting will provide the opportunity for Ky3C members to meet our new Ky3C Coordinator ando reconnect and kick-start our newly focused agenda together.
Join us and bring your colleagues and staff. Hope to see you in June!
The Ky3C Coordinating Board meet in December to review the current goals and strategies of Ky3C, as well as the governance, management and financing structure of the organization. The review of the progress toward the accomplishment of the current strategic plan showed that progress has been made with several goals. Several milestones had been achieved and there was momentum to continue the work of the organization.
With the goal of continuing and sustaining the work of Ky3C for the long-term, the Coordinating Board is proposing several initiatives to move Ky3C forward. These proposed actions will move Ky3C toward long-term financial viability, focus organizational goals, ensure value-added services for our member organizations, streamline our governance structure, and enhance our management and staffing.
The 2017-19 goals and strategic initiatives have been focused on improving communication, collaboration, and professional development among outreach professionals, programs, and proponents through a statewide coalition of member organizations. The current Steering Committee and Coordinating Board have been combined to form a single Coordinating Board and a financial plan has been developed to fund a full-time position housed at the CPE for the next two years.
We welcome your comments and thoughts about these plans for the future of Ky3C. Please do not hesitate to contact me or other members from the four charter partner agencies (CPE, KYAE, KHEAA & KDE). This is an exciting time for Ky3C and Kentucky.
Thank you for your continued support, partnership and involvement.
